Gavagai
"How does it feel as you're laying there dying? Body getting numb."
 Bardo Thodol - Gavagai

The  Players:

Jesse Butler - guitar, sampler, miscellaneous objects,
Gregory Elliott - synths, sampler, didjeridoo, various doohikies.

The Music:
Our sound is mostly experimental/ambient/IDM. We use electronics, guitar, throat singing, hand drums, didjeridoo, dulcimer, other instruments of the world, various toys, and pretty much anything else that we chance to pick up.

"Some themes that we are interested in are combining primitive sound making techniques with new technology and also confronting people head on with realizing the (for lack of a better term) absurdity of life (i.e. we want people to feel a little unsettled when they realize that they live in a world where the sounds of Gavagai are possible). Various scientific, philosophical (we are both grad students in philosophy in addition to our musickal endeavors), and occult related themes also pop up in our sound at times in the sense that our intellectual interests cannot help but inform our art. We also hope to provide a listening experience conducive to entering altered states of consciousness. We attempt originality with our sound, but we don't want such things to drive us like slaves. We do what we do, and do the best that we can at it without concern for second guessing ourselves in terms of trying to be different. We feel that, somewhat paradoxically, bracketing such concerns for the most part is actually the best way to achieve an interesting and unique listening environment."
